I get this question all the time and yes you should spend as much time as needed to make sure you have made the right choice. Again make sure that the bottom line idea will be a niche that will be of interest to you! That oh so very important niche can be of anything you can think of that is of interest to you but the other side is that it also needs to be an item that can be marketed.
So how does all this work?
Here is a indicator that I use to get a feel for the new niche program that I am interested in. Ok here is what I start with, take your niche program of interest and search it in Google. There are 2 approaches to picking a niche at this point and that is you can go after a short keyword phrase or a long tail keyword phrase.
Example: Short Keyword – Affiliate Niche Solutions
Long Keyword – Affiliate Niche Solutions For My Business
At this point it is your choice on which way you want to go but usually the shorter the keyword the more the competition there is for that keyword. You will notice that by doing the searches on Google and by looking in the upper right hand corner of the search page you will see the search results in numbers for each keyword.
Play around with your idea and do some searches for a while and in my opinion it is best to find somthing in the middle for result numbers to get started with. This will allow you a chance to get the control of page #1 of google with out competing with the big boys in mass numbers. While you are doing your searches and you start to get a feel for marketability of the affiliate niche or a personal business niche there is one additional item for you to look at. While you are searching the keyword phrase of interest take note of the right side of all search pages at the paid per click area. You want your keyword phrase of choice to have ppc advertising being bought and this will tell you how marketable your term is. No PPC advertising on the page the less marketable the idea is usually and just the opposite with the more PPC the more competition.
Another key feature that Google helps you with is that right above the first organic listing on the page you will see the show options tab. This is a great feature to put the final touches to your thought on if you have picked a marketable niche or not. Spend the time now rather than later to find out that you have spent so much time and went down the wrong road of choice.
